For you, a thousand times over

Its almost two years, I have been fascinated by The Kite Runner. I did not get time to read the novel, partly because my to-be-read Novel list is huge. Anyway, given similar geographical features, flora and fauna, nature and cultural background among India and Afghanistan, the novel could be lucid enough (more than English novel) for me to read. And finally I have now the gist of the novel, and it is touching.

I perceived Amir as somebody who is always in Learning mode, trying to gauge everything, that makes him follower in almost every situation (not leader), he is not "Tit for Tat" guy at all.

Hasan is perfect complement to Amir, that makes him a right most accomplice to Amir. Hasan is innocent, intelligent and fully nonviolent. In fact Amir is little coward given that he truly does not know his stand. Hasan is solid as far as nonviolence concerned, this is in fact fundamental value of his value system. Hasan has unconditional faith in Amir and he shows a unparalleled friendship values towards Amir, quoting "For you, a thousand times over" when he wants to run a Kite for Aamir. Amir registers everything that Hasan has offered him.

Days gone by, and the life changes radically. Amir settles in US and he gets to know about Hasan's death. His son is with Taliban people, and Amir now, being an adult who discovers Hasan's extraordinary friendship through the registered events in his childhood, wants to rescue Hasan's son. Moreover, hasan's son in fact reminds of hasan to Amir, and he wants to keep him as a part of Hasan. Looking at a nonresponsive and passive child, Amir is now poised to offer exactly what Hasan offered him in childhood, and that is a wonderfull and unconditional "For you, a thousand times over".

In the end of the novel, when I read Amir offering "For you, a thousand times over", it all blurred for a moment behind my tears, it was certainly not runnig but my eyes were full for a fully justified offer now Amir is making to Hasan's child, so much touching and real, and in itself a definition of Humanity magnified thousand fold (technically explosively/exponentially... :))

The best thing about the novel is that its so much real, so much hard and solid literature, and in fact reading it is almost like redaing memoir. Going futher, it really makes reader indulge and feel like he is Amir. My advice, if you are reading the book, please from the first page feel like you are Amir and then read it, you will blow yourself away with the exceptional narrative the Novel offers. Undoubtedly, Hosseini is a champion for this work and from my side, the novel exceptionally super exceded my expectations. Must read in any case. ***** (5+/5)

Pinu Patel

Pinu: Renu, I am virgin.
Renu: I am not...
zzzzzz........

And Vinay Pathak is rocking, as expected he can lead a whole genre " Guy" on his own. Indian cinema is maturing quickly. The kissing scenes among Pinu and Renu were perfectly justified.

Caricature from "Straight"

Why do we love caricatures especially when its not pointing towards perfection? Caricatures portrays the imperfection in a lucid graphical way and that makes it real, something different than fantastic perfection. Caricature is example of how we love imperfection, and how inherently we love reality (which is imperfect). Lets remove Caricature which is just a vehicle to arrive at a magical conclusion. We all are imperfect at different level and we all love it inherently reason being "Its real", its not fantasy. Nutshell.... Imprections.... thats what makes us real, and we love that.

SRK stinks...

Shahrukh should not have used the word Resillient for Amitabh's visit. The correct expression should be the one of being honored, showing gratitude for somebody of AB's stature visits him. Resillient is not at all suitable term for such a grounded and humble visit from the vintage megastar.

Slumdog is to India what CTHD is to China

There is lot of speculations as to how the international community percieves the Slumdog phenomenon. At this time, it is still on the charts and have steady collection internationally as well as in India. After Golden Globes and Oscar Slumdog showed increase in collections and its almost half a month since Oscars, still the flick is steady on the charts. Certainly people do watch it, and its not just desi public, the americans too likes the film. Where does Bollywood stand after Slumdog? Well, Bollywood does not come into picture at all. Its very subtle and complex to characterize the impact of Slumdog and impression of Indian subculture or Bollywood or any kind of shift in perception after Slumdog. The best way is analogy to some other phenomenon, and here is the best way to describe it throught this tool. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, a long ago marked a milestone at Oscar and it was a Chinese stuff. Now analogy is like this. Slumdog is to India what CTHD is to China.

Cube's prequel is Cube-Zero

We watched Cube (1997) yesterday. I remembered disctinctly the impression of a really crooked movie that was truly depicts very extra ordinary situations and ordinary men. The movie along with SAW series falls in a particular category that defines a unique movie experience. I saw one of the movie related to Cube long ago in 2004 or 2005, and I could figure out that what I saw as a prequel to the movie I watched yesterday Cube(1997). I had no clue of the movie I watched because I did not find any movie before 1997 that could be similar to Cube thematic. But then I found Cube Zero (2004) that was prequel, quite surprisingly the prequel has been shot after sequel. Cube Zero always is the best of its kind. Cube was just okay, not that exciting and thrilling as Cube Zero. I wish Hitchcock directed the Cube series and SAW series cuz I feel that these movies really deserves to be falling into "Hitchcockian movies not directed by Hitchcock" for its extraordinary situations.
